Selection Process
I am selective on who I choose, the below info will give you an idea on my selection process.
When selecting the next person to participate in the project, I choose based on their individual uniqueness. This could be an alternative look, eccentric personality or quirky nature. The person needs to be part of a subculture based in Christchurch. This could be one of the many subcultures in Christchurch such as: Goth, Punk, Hippie, Rockabilly, Steam Punk, Heavy Metal or any other one I have not included. I am looking for those that are part of their subculture full-time not those that dress-up sometimes to be involved.
The person needs to be 18 years of age or older, located in Christchurch, and happy for me to come to their home. On some occasions I can shoot at an alternative location such as the person's art studio or another indoor location. The location is important as it needs to represent the person. The location could have decor such as posters, framed art, sculptures, interesting furniture, collectibles or other interesting objects. As long as it relates to their subculture or personality. Their home does not need to be spotless unless this is how they live.
The person does not need to be a model. They just need to be comfortable in front of the camera and not shy. The more confident the better. The photos I am taking are not contrived, I do not tell the person how to stand or how to look. If you do not want to smile, you do not have to! My job is to capture the person and their personality.
